 Values and Approach

Adolescence is a critical inflection point in life. As a high school English teacher, I find it incredibly exciting and rewarding to witness my students as they find their voices, develop greater self-awareness, and build self-esteem.

Writing and thinking clearly is a life skill that no one can take away from you. As a teacher of writing, I create an environment that allows students the freedom to explore their passions and opinions, and support my students to hone those into cogent, insightful essays. I want my students to realize that they have something important to contribute to this world and that their perspectives are valuable. It is critical to learn how to share these perspectives with the world. Writing is an essential tool for self-expression.

I am in awe of my students’ vulnerability and openness as they share what they’re thinking about and what is important to them. The relationships I have built with my students are characterized by trust and mutual respect. I love to help students realize what they’re good at, pursue their creative ideas and passions, and to offer guidance and mentorship.

Over the past several years, I have supported many high school seniors through their college admissions process. There is a school that is the right fit for every person. Because of the close relationships I am able to build with my students, I am especially skilled at supporting students as they research schools and building lists of programs to consider that are reflective of each student’s interests and skills. I am honored that students have trusted me with their personal statements and essays, and have sought out my guidance as they have navigated what is often a convoluted process.
